Public School - Pros & Cons

Rearing and educating children is an enormous and extensive responsibility. A responsibility, I contend, that belongs entirely to the parents. The three primary options for educating one's children, public school, private school, and home school, are each fraught with difficulties. Each of the three have some advantages, but each has major disadvantages. Finding the solution for one's children that works and is doable is no easy task.

Public School - Pros:

  • Free.
  • Easy.
  • Filled with highly skilled, dedicated professionals who do a tremendous job inside the confines of what they are given by the system. I disagree with many aspects of the public school system. I honor those great people who work as teachers inside it.

Public School - Cons:

  • Free.
  • Easy.
  • The power of peer pressure is overwhelming and, in most cases, I suspect, far greater than any other influence in the public school. Children walk in a state of intimidation; what their peers think about them is often much more important than any directive from the adults in the school. The idea that children learn "social skills" from other children their own age would be laughable, if it were not so sad.

(If you come across this site before I complete this page, come back later and you will more under both Pros and Cons.)
